Abstract
<p> Liquid‐junction photovoltaic and photoelectrosynthetic applications of the thallic/thallous couple have been investigated. In the liquid‐junction photovoltaic mode the redox couple produces large photovoltages with several semiconductors ( , , , and ), and does not absorb appreciable semiconductor ultra‐bandgap light. The couple also shows photoelectrosynthetic utility, since the thallic ion is a selective two‐electron oxidizing agent for a variety of organic substrates. Preliminary work on the photoassisted epoxidation of propylene at n‐type semiconductor electrodes and powders ( , , and ) is discussed.</p>
