Abstract

The equations of the electrochemical magnetohydrodynamic problem were numerically solved in a coupled manner for a two-dimensional model problem. Using potentiostatic mode of operation with appropriate boundary conditions, we simulated the interplay of Lorentz forces, convection and concentration distribution under the Butler-Volmer electrode kinetics of a redox couple. The evolution of the flow field over 150 seconds shows the gradual development of a vortex structure. The concentration contours show strong effect of magnetoconvection caused by the Lorentz force.
