Abstract

The paper presents the current status of surface mine automation. It discusses the current technological advances related to mining applications of advanced computer, communications, GPS and other technologies. Following this the recent philosophies guiding the development of intelligent surface mining systems are outlined and the current status of these systems is reviewed.
