Identification of Refractories for High Temperature Black Liquor Gasifier

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Interactions between black liquor smelt and candidate refractory compounds were simulated using FactSage(r) thermodynamic software. Sessile drop testing using sodium carbonate as the contacting smelt was employed to verify the results of thermodynamic calculations and also to measure the contact angle. The experiments showed that MgO and CeO2 do not react with Na2CO3. In addition highest contact angle was obtained for MgAl2O4 among the candidate refractory compounds evaluated.
