A Tunable High-Gain Low-Noise Transimpedance Amplifier for Biosensing

Research output: Contribution to journal › Article › peer-review

Abstract

A low-noise transimpedance amplifier with tunable high gain is presented in this paper. It uses an improved two-stage topology in order to increase the design flexibility in gain- bandwidth and gain-noise trade-offs. The pseudo-resistor is used to reach ultra-high gain. The circuit dissipates 183µW from a 1.8V supply using standard 0.18µm CMOS 1P6M technology and it accomplishes 2.75MHz bandwidth with 160dB gain, 20.9kHz bandwidth with 220dB gain, nearly 0° phase shift in passband and 42fA/sqrt(Hz) input-referred current noise at 20kHz. The proposed transimpedance amplifier provides a perfect solution aimed for biosensing and optical interfacing where low noise and high gain are needed.
