About

Kwame Awuah-Offei is Union Pacific Foundation/Rocky Mountain Energy Co. Professor in Mining Engineering in the at Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T). His initial appointment is effective through Aug. 31, 2025. Dr. Awuah-Offei is also the principal consultant at Sphinx Mining Systems, Inc. He holds a PhD from the University of Missouri--Rolla (now Missouri S&T). He has 12 years of research and industry experience in various capacities. Dr. Awuah-Offei has extensive experience in modeling and simulation of discrete and dynamic systems in mining. His current research interests include simulation of mining (including aggregate) systems, mining equipment performance evaluation, earthmoving equipment-formation interactions, and sustainable mining systems. He has had diverse teaching assistantship appointments in three universities in three countries. He has worked in surface gold mining and aggregate operations. Dr. Awuah-Offei is a nationally active member of SME. He is a registered professional engineer.

Dr. Kwame Awuah-Offei has accepted the role as permanent chair of mining and explosives engineering effective Monday, Aug. 1. He has served as interim director of the program and subsequently as interim chair of the department since July 2018. Dr. Awuah-Offei joined the Missouri S&T faculty as an assistant professor in 2007 after earning his Ph.D. in Rolla in 2006. He is the Union Pacific Foundation/Rocky Mountain Energy Company Professor in Mining Engineering. He conducted some of his doctoral studies at the University of Alberta in Canada. Awuah-Offei earned a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.
