About

Dr. Medvedeva’s research area is in computational condensed matter physics and materials science. She employs density-functional methods to study structural, electronic, magnetic, optical, and mechanical properties of solids from first principles. Research interests include: Transparent conducting oxides; Composition and defect formation; Amorphous oxide semiconductors; Crystallization, transport and flexibility; Thermoelectric and topological materials; Spin-orbital coupling and superconductivity; Advanced steels; Alloying, fracture, and deformation; Dilute magnetic wide-bandgap semiconductors; Multilayers, digital alloys, interface engineering; Magnetoresistivity in strongly-correlated oxides; Spin, charge, orbital degrees of freedom.

Dr. Medvedeva's research motto is Materials from the Mind rather than from the Mines.

Highly-accurate, multi-scale modeling allows her not only to explain observed complex behavior of materials and to predict ways to manipulate their properties but also to computationally design and test novel materials with target properties.

Materials that Dr. Medvedeva studies are technologically-appealing for many applications including photovoltaics, transparent and flexible electronics, display panels, light-emitters, and smart windows.
