Dr. C. Guney Olgun joined Missouri S&T as Assistant Professor in the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering department in August 2018. He received BSCE in Civil Engineering and MSCE in Geotechnical Engineering from Bogazici University in Turkey and a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Virginia Tech. Dr. Olgun was a Research Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech.
 
Dr. Olgun performed research and taught courses in geotechnical engineering for more than 10 years. Prior to his position at Virginia Tech, he also worked for 5 years in geotechnical consulting and construction on projects involving deep excavations, slope stabilization, and ground improvement. His research interests include thermo-active foundation systems; seismic performance of improved ground; cyclic vulnerability of fine grained soils; dynamic soil-structure-foundation interaction; and advanced numerical modeling. While at Virginia Tech, he led a number of geotechnical engineering research studies related to energy piles, seismic performance of improved ground, seismicity of Central and Eastern United States, as well as and landslide risk assessment. He frequently presents his research at national and international conferences and, and he has provided training course for engineers in Switzerland and Romania on projects related to earthquake engineering and landslide remediation. Dr. Olgun has also authored more than 25 refereed publications.
